Introduction
What is Recruitment?
Recruitment is a process an organization follows in order to generate a pool of skilled, konwledgeable and qualified people applying for employment (Gold, 2007).
What is Selection?
Selection is the second stage of the process of employment. It can be defined as the the process of identifying the most suitable and appropriate person for a certain job. in the selection process the performance requirment for the job is predicted and the applicant must fullfil the requirement in order to get selected (Yaseen 2015).

Recruitment vs Selection
Job Analysis
A job's specific needs, duties, and relative importance are identified and determined in detail through a methodical procedure called "Job Analysis."
There are two main parts in the job analysis as "Job Description" and "Job Specifications".

Steps of Selection Process
- Initial screening interview.

- Final decision and make a fair job offer (Thebe, 2014).
Types of Recruitment
1. Internal Recruitment : Recruiting from within the organization. Sources are; promotions, transfers, recall etc.
2. External Recruitment : Recruiting from outside the company. Sources include; HR recruitment consultants, public advertiesments, graduate recruitment etc (Otoo, 2018).
Internal Recruitment
Advantages
- Applicant knows the organization well.
- Justify the policy of building leaders.
- No need of advertising.
Disadvantages
- Person promoted may need to be replaced.
- May not bring new ideas to the role.
- Might develop conflicts among peers.
External Recruitment
Advantages
- May bring new ideas.
- May bring new good working culture.
- Problem solving from different point of view.
Disadvantages
- More costly.
- Gets time settle within the organization.
- Discourage the internal employees.
How to recruit the best candidates?
- Have definitions for all open jobs.
- Create a recruitment stratergy.
- Work on employer branding.
- Offer competitive pay and benifits.
- Proactive communication.
- Use current employees as reference.
- Make transparency a priority (Forbes, 2021).
Importance of Optimal Recruitment & Selection
- Allows to attract the best talents.
- Reduces turnover and absenteesm.
- Saves organizations money.
- Creates a level playing field (Personio, 2024)
